Greetings.
My name is Stephanie Mack,
also known as Kheebie.
The Original Narcissist: The Old Southern Legend of Jezebel, began as a black and white graphic novel that honored and celebrated the saintly life of my grandmother, Dr. Thelma Tatum Powell, better known as Mama T. Now, I have developed the book into a short film, hoping for a network series or film franchise.
My story begins in the middle of the Bible Belt. I was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and of course, I was traditionally raised in the Baptist Church. At the age of five, my parents relocated our small family of three to Culver City, California. However, I spent all my summer vacations in El Dorado, Arkansas, until the age of fourteen. El Dorado is 120 miles south of Little Rock off the 167 Hwy. Yes, I was educated in California, but as soon as the school year ended, I was shipped back home to the deep South. For nine years, I spent my formative years in the country, fighting monster mosquitos, catching fireflies in mason jars with my cousins and going to church with my grandmother. For three months out of the year, I was an active member of the Baptist Church. From Sunday school, weekday Bible study and of course, choir rehearsal. I was a PGK, Pastor Grand Kid.
My Mama T was a devout, strict, unadulterated Baptist believer. She was a phenomenal preacher, teacher, and storyteller. Along with verbally painting a picture with her words, she performed beautiful and graceful praise and worship hand dances for the Lord. My Mama T was the BEST example of how to do it... how to be a Proverbs 31 Woman. As I grew up, I realized that precious time I spent with her became the foundation of my spiritual life. My parents were great providers; however, my grandmother’s love of the Lord had a significant influence on me. One of my fondest memories with her, was sitting at her kitchen table listening to old Bible stories, while making butter pound cakes. One story I remember in particular, was the one about Jezebel.
One summer day in June 1984, a stray dog chased me into the house. Hysterical, I ran into Mama T arms, and she immediately hugged and calmed me down. The moment I told her a dog was after me, she cupped my little cheeks, kissed my forehead, and sat me down at the kitchen table.
She said,
“Kheebie, now it is time for me to warn you about the hidden history of dogs. I must share with you the Tatum family, handed down generational story of the old Southern Legend of Jezebel. It is an old wise tale that explains why you must be especially careful when you are near a dog that sniffs, growls, and ferociously barks for NO REASON! Ya see, for generations and generations, old southern folk believe Jezebel’s evil spirit has been lingering in canine blood. The old southern legend has it, that when the wild dogs consumed Jezebel’s bloody remains, it also took in her evil spirit and eternally cursed the dog! They say, when a dog barks at you for no reason, it is because the EVIL spirit of Jezebel can smell your sweet “Goodness."
Fast forward:
For nearly forty years, I have pondered on every lesson I learned with Mama T. As I matured with God, my Biblical curiosity strongly developed and in 2010, I analyzed her theory of Jezebel and the old southern legend. This book journeys through the rich history of antebellum prayer life and beliefs. Using deductive reasoning, I came to a conclusion that exposed a remarkably plausible correlation to Jezebel and her disembodied evil spirit.
Think about it:
1.) Why do we call a dog
and a woman a B!TCH!?
2.) Why does a dog bark for
NO REASON?
3.) As prophesized, wild dogs devoured Jezebel’s bloody remains. (1 Kings 21:23)
4.) Demons require a body to accomplish its evil purpose. It seeks to attach itself to any willing man or woman.
5.) The old southern legend has it, that when the wild dogs consumed Jezebel’s bloody remains, it also took in her evil spirit and eternally cursed the dog!
Inside this epic tale, I simply interpreted the Biblical facts of the evil and wicked queen. I know this is controversial, but I presented a risky, yet cleverly imagined account of what could have happened during Jezebel’s reign in Samaria, Israel.
Over the centuries, the world has described Jezebel as ruthless, controlling, and domineering. She is evil personified, and these characteristics are identical to present day narcissists.
Hence, deeming Jezebel the first
B!TCH, ‘The Original Narcissist.’
It is written in Revelation 2:20, that Jezebel’s evil spirit has lasted through the ages, and is STILL being tolerated to this day.
